Department: Instructional Faculty, Upper School (grades 9-12)

Mounds Park Academy is a PreK-12 independent school in Saint Paul, MN that serves approximately 575 students from throughout the Twin Cities area. Since 1982, Mounds Park Academy has engaged students in a rigorous college preparatory experience that is demanding, but not draining, and goes far beyond memorization. Mounds Park Academy seeks a full-time (.9 FTE) Upper School Science teacher, preferably with experience in Chemistry and Physics for the 2025 - 2026 school year. This position includes teaching multiple sections of Upper School Science (likely Honors Chemistry and/or Chemistry, and one section of 9th grade Physics) with a possibly to teach sections of offered Senior elective courses, based on experience and availability. Science teachers at MPA are responsible for providing a classroom instructional program that supports the individual needs of all students in accordance with the school’s mission and values. We seek individuals with experience in teaching high school age students with one or more degrees in a Science related subject.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach at least four (4) Upper School Science classes
  • Incorporate hands-on, lab based approach to teaching and learning science
  • Emphasize critical thinking through content, research, and analysis
  • Make science relevant and meaningful by inspiring students
  • Create and use diverse lesson plans and syllabi based upon MPA Science Curriculum Review
  • Revise and plan new curriculum in conjunction with other members of the Science Department
  • Supervise, encourage, counsel, and evaluate students
  • Foster and sustain an effective classroom environment that fosters open discussion with the freedom to express varied points of view
  • Utilize and incorporate available academic technology for instruction
  • Communicate and meet with students and parents during scheduled conferences and when requested
  • Participate in Science Department and staff development activities
  • Show a willingness to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom
  • Perform additional duties as needed (serve on school-wide committees, advise student clubs, serve as a homeroom advisor, etc.)

Qualifications and Experiences Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one or more Science related subjects
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent, preferable
  • Three (3) years teaching experience at the upper school level or beyond
  • Experience teaching Chemistry, required
  • Experience teaching Physics, preferable
